About James Gillies
The Story So Far
I qualified as an agricultural engineer at Rycotewood College, and after a bit of a career detour working abroad for several years, in 1995 I returned to the UK and I did something which was to transform my life – I bought a tractor! I started a horse paddock maintenance business and this led me to countryside stewardship. I have never looked back and have continued enjoying practical land management. In 2016, I thought that it was time to share my knowledge. I now offer both land management and consultancy services.
In 2016 I was accepted as a Member of the British Institute of Agricultural Consultants (MBIAC), a body which recognises and promotes agricultural consultants. In December 2018 I was elected as a Member of Institute of Agricultural Management – recognising and promoting the highest standards in Agricultural Management practices (MIgrAM).
I use my 20 years’ practical experience in habitat creation and land management to help land and estate owners to make the most of their land. I offer a bespoke service and my clients deal directly with me to manage all aspects of the habitat creation or land management project. My service ensures continuity in planning and delivery; I aim to save you time, to give you the freedom to enjoy your land and to maximise the benefits for you and for wildlife.
My experience encompasses:
- Hedge laying, planting and management
- Establishing and maintaining wetlands
- Land drainage
- Woodland management
- Grassland management
- Tree risk assessment
- Water and drinking systems
- Infrastructure construction
- Wildflower meadow creation and management
- Game cover establishment
- Risk assessment
- Agricultural engineering
With my help you can spend quality time enjoying your land rather than worrying about it or maintaining it. You will be able to ride, shoot and walk the dog more often whilst taking great pride in your surroundings.
